Steven Wallace, Clinical Therapist Intern I Asheville & Hendersonville, NC
Hi, my name is Steven!
I’m an MSW Intern at Born to Bend Mental Health & Wellness while completing my Advanced Standing Master of Social Work program at Appalachian State University.
Maybe anxiety makes it difficult to slow your thoughts down or feel present. You may be feeling depressed, disconnected, or unlike yourself. Perhaps you are adjusting to a change in your family, relationships, school, work, health, or identity and are unsure how to move forward. You might also be navigating neurodiversity, carrying the effects of difficult past experiences, or feeling misunderstood by the people around you.
Whatever brings you to therapy, you deserve a place where you can talk openly about what you are going through without fear of judgment.
My goal is not to focus on what you have done wrong or tell you who you should be. I want to understand your experiences, recognize the strengths you already have, and work alongside you as you navigate challenges and move toward what matters to you.
My approach is person-centered, strengths-based, and holistic. This means meeting you where you are, honoring your unique story, and considering how your relationships, environment, mind, and body may all be affecting how you feel.
Together, we can identify your strengths and develop practical tools that support growth and meaningful change.
Before beginning my MSW internship, I gained experience working with adolescents through the Autism Society of North Carolina and with older adults through the Buncombe County Council on Aging. These experiences strengthened my appreciation for the different challenges people face throughout their lives and the importance of feeling heard, respected, and supported.
I welcome children, adolescents, adults, veterans, and families from all backgrounds and identities.
Whether you are experiencing anxiety or depression, navigating stress or a major life transition, working through family or relationship concerns, or looking for a therapist who understands the importance of neurodiversity-affirming and trauma-informed care, I want therapy to be a place where you feel comfortable being yourself.
